Hole Doughnuts

Hole Doughnuts is a doughnut shop off Haywood Road in West Asheville that makes their oily cakes fresh to order.

I’d been following them for like all of eternity on IG, but hadn’t stopped by because I thought (for some odd reason) they were in the boonies. They’re (in fact) not in the boonies, but do (in fact) have a primo spot in West Asheville. So (bonus) since they’re not in the boonies, you don’t have to worry about someone going ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ on your ass.

Also, they have a nice large parking lot. So really- you’re getting the best of both worlds (an urban locale with a *non creepy* rural vibe and a plethora of parking).

The inside of Hole Doughnuts feels like you’ve stepped back in time, they’ve got an awesome IG (props to whoever manages their page), but there is just no possible way pictures could ever do them justice. The tangible version is so much better.

The music, mixed with the vintage feel furniture, and black and white pictures - make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

Plus, the ladies working there were SO nice- *super* welcoming and friendly; I felt like I had walked into my best friends living room (the nice bestie, not the anti social one that prefers talking to her (highly offensive) parrot - over people).

The day I went to Hole there were four flavors of donuts to choose from, that all looked equally delicious.

I ordered an Autumn Orange one (that happened to be a new flavor that day) and a small coffee

The donuts are fried fresh to order, and taste super old fashioned. Kind of like a fancy fried dough. It was the perfect warm temperature, crunchy - yet chewy, and sweet- but not in a gross faux sugar way.

Normally I don’t like to finish my donuts (I know - blasphemy), but I couldn’t not, and ate the entire thing.

My coffee came in a cute little Togo cup that was perfect to tote around town while I finished my errands for the day after stopping at Hole for a snack.

The coffee itself complimented my Autumn Orange Doughnut perfectly.

They’re’s lots of places to sit, including a fun donut bar that you can sit at and watch them make your donuts.

Or, sit outside on their adorbs porch if you’re like my anti social bff (just don’t bring your bird, it will probably poop all over their patio and then they’ll get annoyed).

They say money doesn’t buy happiness, but it seems as if going to Hole Doughnuts does. I was legit in the best mood I’ve been in in a long time after stopping by. I kind of didn’t want to leave after I ate my donut, but didn’t want to be *accused* of loitering at a bakery, again. (I didn’t have my “mugshot makeup” on, and had spent all my bail money on food as of late.)

On that note, one of the ladies working there told me to make sure I come back in the winter too- because it feels like a giant snow globe inside when it’s snowing. They’re definitely on my list (not the black list- the other list), for *several* return visits to try their seasonal doughnuts paired with a hot fresh coffee.

Hole donuts is a great place to go solo, or with a friend (or two). Or, treat yourself before work (they're open 8am - 1pm Wednesday-Monday) - I guaranteed you’ll be in a spectacular mood all day.

Tip; don’t be afraid to look in the mirrors (they won’t steal your soul, and are super flattering!)
